Goldfish always will eat their eggs given the chance. There are almost as many ways to protect the eggs as there are breeders of goldfish, but here's a few links to some of the more common methods and how to work with them. On the last link please notice the additional pages of information inked at the top of the page you will view.

Like everyone said already, goldfish eat their eggs. Not every species eats their eggs/young as bettas are dependant on their father carrying them in his mouth either back to the bubblenest or if he is a mouth brooder.
Before carrying out the advice that people have posted, I think you should consider what you will do with the fish if you successfully raise them. Breeding fish is very time consuming and at times can be difficult to get rid of the fish. I imagine that at worse, depending on what kind of goldfish you have, a pet shop may take then in as feeder fish.

i got a better idea.
If possible fill the bottom of the tank with marbles. Two layers of large marbles would work the best. That way, the eggs can fall thru the marbles, and the goldfish wont be able to eat them. By the time the eggs start hatching i would reccomend moving the bigger fish into another tank. Or, you can remove the eggs imediately and replace them in another container.

Most fish which are not protective of their eggs will tend to eat a few. The best solution is to remove the grown ups after spawning and if that is not practical then remove the eggs.
Good luck !

All goldfish will start eating their eggs after spawning is complete (which takes on average 4 - 6 hours). They normally spawn in the morning after a storm or quick change in barometric pressure (just so you know when to look :) )
When the spawning ends the breeders will begin eating the eggs. Remove the eggs at this time. Place them in separate tanks with water at the same temperature as the breeding tank.
If using water at sixty-five to seventy degrees it will take around seventy-two hours to hatch. Fertile eggs will be pale amber to pale yellow in color. Infertile eggs will be opaque in color and eventually become fuzzy as fungus develops, remove fungused eggs.
When the fry hatch they will be less than one quarter of an inch long. Their bellies will have yolk sacs. This will nourish them for a few days, do not feed them at this time.
After that you will need to feed them finely sieved daphnia or newly hatched brine shrimp. Remove uneaten food and use a sponge filter with low turbulence.

You can remove the eggs if you wish or just move them to a breeding net. You can remove them completely to a shallow dish however leaving them in the tank is the best way to keep them. Just scoop them out gently and move them to a breeding net. Do not pile them up to high or deep or get a second net.
Also, feeding your goldfish a little more food once you see eggs in the tank will help curb them from eating most of the eggs.

Goldfish are scavengers and that i'm valuable they wouldnt strategies a snack of fish eggs in the event that they have been again in the time of them. in case you like the barb eggs to hatch than you will might desire to domicile somebody in a diffrent tank until ultimately they do.

all fish eat their baby fish or their eggs. thats why you have to separate them. what you do is let them mate, and if you see a female fish being pregnant, separate it from the adults, you can buy this "cage" thingy that will fit in your tank. once the female lays eggs, take the female out and let the baby goldfish hatch out of it. when you feed the baby goldfish, make sure you crumple up the fish food so that it is small enough for them to eat. when they grow bigger, you can let them out with the big fish.
