You can use the quadratic formula to solve the first one.
The second one you use foil to get (x-3)(x-1) = 0
So when x-3 =0; x = 3
And when x-1 = 0; x = 1

x^2 - 2x = + 2
x^2 - 2x + 1 = 1 + 2
(x -1)^2 = 3
x - 1 = -√3, √3
x = 1 -√3, 1 + √3

x^2 - 4x + 3 = 0
(x - 1)(x - 3) = 0
x = 1, 3
