I think who ever told you that thinks they are being funny.

There is an idea that in 2012 the earth will be struck by a large asteroid and most or all life will be destroyed. If that did happen, then daylight savings time (along with lots of other things eg monday night football) would be eliminated.

No reason to end Daylight Savings time in a particular year. There may come a time when the economists and politicians decide to do away with the concept, but there is no reason to forecast that they will do that in 2012 (maybe 2012 is important to you because its an election year in the US?)

It is going to be eliminated in November of 2008 when the Democrats elect Hillary Clinton to the Office of President of the United States. Very shortly thereafter the world will come to an end. There is no hope for us at all with her as a leader.
