Don't be scared. Be excited that you will be meeting your new baby soon. I was induced with my first child, put on pitocin to improve my contractions. I had two children after my first and the contractions were no better or worse. My advise is to listen to your doctor or midwife and do everything you can to help your baby be born. Walk if you're comfortable, use a birthing ball, take advantage of massage, take advantage of gravity. Listen to your body, push hard when you need to and don't be afraid to request an epidural or an intrathecal if your doctor says it is okay. My third birth was the first time I received pain medication and I can say without a doubt that that delivery was the most rewarding. I was empowered by my first delivery having been induced and having had no pain medication but the third was really truly wonderful - for my husband as well. Don't be afraid to be induced. It was nice to rest up and be prepared and be in control of when my first child was going to be born. You will do great. We've been giving birth to babies for a very long time. Congratulations!

Try to relax, I will attempt to tell you Probably how the night will go, you'll be admitted, your nurse will obtain much needed information from you, start an IV, start you on some fluids, then insert your ceridil. The insertion of the Cervidil is sometimes painful, and you will have to be on bedrest while the Cervidil is in place. Cervidil is used to soften and thin out your cervix. Cervidil may also put you into labor (best case scenario)! Hopefully they will start you on pitocin FIRST before they break your water. The baby needs to be fully engaged into the pelvis before they break your water, to be sure the baby remains head down, and another part doesn't present before the head. Your contractions will most likely hurst worse after your water is broke, just FYI. You will do fine! Good luck, hope this helped

Are you over due? is the baby to large? Is the baby turned right? if your overdue, baby to large or turned wrong, it's for the best. If not, if your fine (no medical problems) you may want to wait and see if your body starts on it's own, let him know you want to wait. See what he says.

I can tell you from experience that Induction is more painful than natural. I don't know why. But if your going to have an epideral you shouldn't have to many issues (and shouldn't worry about it). However if your opting for natural (like I did) then induction, you will feel more pain with it, it last about 6 hours the last 2 hours are the most painful (for me) it feels like when you have to go #2 and your stuck in the car and there's no bathroom in sight....

Natural is not much better, after they broke my water (I didn't feel anything just a warm gush of water all over the bed), it did start the labor pains intensifying though.

The first time was natural; I was dialated 2 cm for the last month, started getting flu like symptoms(didnt want to eat the last 3 days), and went to the hospital they made me start walking (I did and about 3 hours after walking starting getting contractions, bearable, but I felt like I needed to sit down during them, then thats when they made me go back to the labor & Delivery room to monitor me and that babies heart)....
I had a local anesthetic for the epsiotomy....and the sew up afterwards...(by the way that hurt also, like a pinprick every time nearly, felt like they were never going to be done)

The second time around; I never dialated on my own, my water broke and was leaking for about a week and I never knew it (I thought it was urine leak from the baby kicking my bladder, happened the whole pregnancy it seemed). I had a large leak when I was grocery shopping decided to go on into the L & D and they confirmed it was amniotic fluid. They induced me to be on the safe side and 6 hours later I had my daughter. The pains were very intense I guess because they were making my body dialate. But remember I chose not to have epidural (for one I was a big chicken and was afraid more of the needle going into my spine than the actual birth. ) I can say that afterwards you do remember the pain, but it's all worth it once your see your beautiful babies face. Don't think about the pain, think about meeting the new member of your family. Bring something to relax you; massager, heating pad, extra pillows (favorite body pillow for between your knees to relieve the back labor) believe it or not your feel a lot of pain in your back. It starts in your back and mounts your stomache mucsles and they form a peak, it's really amazing that your body can do that.

It's awe inspiring as well as fear inducing. So look to the positive more and remember that it only lasts a short while in your process of becoming a mommy. The most painful will be realizing that they feel you don't know anything when they hit about 14 years old...believe it or not. :)

Good luck and all the best wishes.

First of all RELAX- I was induced with my second and it's not that bad. Actually, it wasn't that bad at all. It's just checking into the hospital and knowing when you will have the baby as opposed to "wondering" if you are in labour and what you should do..... Relax...the drugs they use to speed up the labour aren't a big deal... Don't fret about it, the baby has to come out right ? If you are over 10 days late from your due date you get induced so the baby doesn't get too big and have a hard time exiting the womb... It will be ok... Just remember to breathe and not push with your eyes closed...Good luck and relax...

You know, if it were me, I would beg my doctor not to induce me. If you are over 40 wks or there is a medical reason for induction, that is one thing, but it's another if the induction is simply for convenience. I was induced with my baby and ended up needing a c-section. I am so sad about that because it means my chances of having another child vaginally is very small. Your risk of having a c-section when you are induced are pretty high.

However, if you are induced, I agree with the other poster, get the epidural, it's horrible, horrible, pain! Good luck my friend!

You have the right to say no to being induced. I had two c-sections. My first one was after being on pitocin for two days. I think my body just wasn't ready to give birth yet.

I think doctors interfere too much sometimes. Also, I've heard that sometimes doctors induce so that you give birth at a time convenient for them.

I wish I had trusted my gut instincts instead of just going along with everything the doctors and nurse told me. If you feel you need to wait, then insist on waiting for nature to take it's course.

relax and pamper yourself on the days leading up to your induction, becuz after a new baby it'll be awhile before you have time for yourself again. i have 3 girls and 2 of them i was induced with. i am preg with #4 and plan to get induced again. i liked being induced becuz i knew when the baby would be here. But with the 1st induction i was terrified like you, mainly becuz i had heard horror stories. with my 2 yr old i was in labor for 2 hrs and my 1 yr old i was in labor for an hour. just dont stress over pain and go with an open mind and you'll be fine. good luck and congrats.

it truly is amazingly unusual for a labour to no longer start up on it truly is own. it truly is even popular for 2 weeks previous a due date, have confidence me, my first replaced into 2 weeks previous due and only high-quality, are you valuable your dates are precise? except an ultrasound shows a starry night trend, indicating there's a situation with the placenta, i might carry off on the induction. a minimum of he's waiting a week, docs now days look to wish toddlers on their schedules, no longer mothers or the toddlers and it truly is premiere to various C sections. Induction, only so which you recognize, makes the contractions greater and oftentimes finally ends up in far extra intervention than mandatory. Do you have a doula or midwife who might desire to help, or a minimum of a stable start coach, somebody who could make it easier to breath in the time of the contractions and intervene between you and the wellbeing facility? conserving mom calm and centred, and comfortable will make the labour flow extra easily. this might desire to be a remarkable time on your existence, no longer a frightening time, be a sprint assertive and take over your man or woman labour and transport, don't be extra....and don't pay attention to all of the horror thoughts obtainable, save valuable strategies, you like your daughters start to be a time to undergo in strategies, take a digicam, do no longer flow to the wellbeing facility too early on your labour, relax with a funky drink (water, juice, a sprint wine), gentle track, rubdown, choose for an prolonged walk, do no longer use any organic induction concepts, I promise toddlers have been born for hundreds of years and yours would be too. Sending happy strategies your way.

I was induced unsuccessfully with my first baby. My only advice is to be prepared for the possibility of a C-section. I hope you do not have to have one, but if it fails, that's what will happen.
