This is the best question EVER on Yahoo Answers.
I try to do this on a regular basis because you never know what a person is going through and a little compliment may just be the very thing they need.
And it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Thank you for being a caring person.

I will accept the challenge, and I'd like to think that I do smile at people. I know a good word does make a person feel good throughout the day. I once had a little girl tell me she loved the smell of my perfume. That made me feel so good.
I also thank you for being there for me. I have a gift for you. You will see it soon. As a Vin Diesel fan, I know you will really like it.

At school I am known as the teacher that always smiles. I also smile all too often at strangers, it often gives them the wrong idea. Kind of take it as an invitation to try to chat me up, while I am just being my friendly self... However paying a compliment to a stranger, well that would just be totally unsafe as I live in South Africa. I will gladly accept the challenge though...

I have at my new job. When I scan alcohol I ask people if they are over 21 even though they clearly are. It makes their day and brings a smile to both our faces.

I do that a lot to people. I've gotten mixed reactions from a smile and compliment returned, to a scowl. It's a fun thing to do and it makes my day too.

you are SO right. once a lady came up to me and introduced herself and said that she just wanted me to know that my smile lit up her day and thanked me. i was on cloud nine the rest of the day. this the power to change someones attitude and you are just so wonderful for challenging us.
by the way the lady's name Luz (Spanish for light). talk about appropriate names!

I already do that, and you absolutely correct. It can make my day. Especially the elderly. They seem to appreciate a smile and a kind word more than anyone.
