it is on a tall stem and on the top there is almost a ball of flowers, white, with 5 petals...i have no idea what it is and i have no way of figuring it out.

Is the stem hollow or solid? How tall is it? What color is the inside of the fllower? Any scent?

When you send Blackberry Briar Patch a picture, also include the foliage. When you look at the ball of flowers note if each flower has it's own little stem and do they all attach together at one point or not. If you can peek inside the flower, can you count how many stamens are inside.....the center is not the stamen, it's the number around the center thingy. These are some of the things people look at to ID flowers.

Like many here I suspect it's an allium.....member of the onion family.

Can you send me a picture? Are you saying that each individual flower within the ball of flowerS has 5 petals?

My Grandmother had purple ones. She said they were snowballs, but I really don't know. But I do know the flower.

pick a leaf and smell it. Does it smell of onions? If so I would guess it is a variey of allium family.
