My wife and I think it's very important. We are now friends with a former teacher of hers and her wife. I made a few baby boomer lesbian and bisexual acquaintances back home in Orlando. And we got to know a female couple in their seventies after we saw them helping each other out of a bus--if you think that's to die for sweet in a mixed-sex couple, it's sublime for two women.

We're apparently the older role models for a teenage couple we know, too. (We're in our early thirties.)

So, do you have older role models? What are they like? Is this important to you?

Men lost many of our role models through AIDS. Where I live we are just getting to the point where there are enough role models to help out the younger crowd. I always liked the movie Victor Victoria and used that for a role model. Hopefully the younger kids appreciate the experience we have endured and will start to see older gays as positive. I am not holding my breath.

Unfortunately no. I'm almost 19 and accepted I'm bi just two years ago. I don't know many people from the LGBT community and the few I know are my age.

I really think it is important to have an older role model. I wish I have one, someone who wold help me understand issues of my life, and be there just to set an example. Someone that can see things from a different point of view, that would be of great help.

The closest role model would be someone like Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, I never had anyone when I was growing up as there was no-one who I could admire or feel any connection too as a lot we're flamboyant and everything which just isn't me

I know two other lesbians personally and I am the oldest. We enjoy the company of 8 other ladies for lunch once a week so I don't know if any of us are role models.
There are many LGBT people who have helped me,especially when I was very distressed and some who I regard with great affection and respect for their qualities.
If we can get along together then we will learn the meaning of life.

My wife.

My role model in every aspect of life (except in goofing around), she's twice my age and feels younger than me. She's been aware of her sexuality since 13, so I have an open book whenever I'm feeling over the edge in any situation. I actually met her while she was getting a divorce, I had to work her case, been doing it ever since... LoL!

yes I do have an older role-model. I'm quite sure she is aware of it even though I haven't told her. I thought I was attracted to her, but in actuality it is because I "admire" her. Two seperate things. I don't think I could ever tell her. I would be afraid she'd look at me as some silly little girl lol.

There was an older gay man who lived near us, that we were friends with for a long time. At first I hated him, because he was a closet case who hired hustlers when he got horny, but over the years I came to understand his generation issues much better, and I came to think of him as a friend. There is a real generation-hole of gay men in their 50's-70's because of HIV.

I agree with the need...
But its a little different for men...
If some gay kids start hanging around me
I'm sure that people would start questioning my motives.
