Two prominent rings (A and B) and one faint ring (C) can be seen from the Earth. The gap between the A and B rings is known as the Cassini division. The much fainter gap in the outer part of the A ring is known as the Encke Division (but this is somewhat of a misnomer since it was very likely never seen by Encke). The Voyager pictures show four additional faint rings. Saturn's rings, unlike the rings of the other planets, are very bright (albedo 0.2 - 0.6).

While the largest gaps in the rings, such as the Cassini Division and Encke Division, can be seen from Earth, the Voyager spacecrafts discovered the rings to have an intricate structure of thousands of thin gaps and ringlets.
The Cassini probe discovered 2 new rings and a lot of details in the others. The named rings, moving out from Saturn are:
D-Ring
C-Ring
B-Ring
A-Ring
Atlas Ring
F-Ring
Janus/Epimetheus Ring (discovered by Cassini probe)
G-Ring
Pallene Ring (discovered by Cassini probe)
E-Ring

From what I have seen, there is no longer a definite number of rings. Before probes photographed Saturn up close, there appeared to be about 6 or 7.

Their are dozens of rings. The Cassini-Huygens space craft has been taking close up pictures of the entire Saturn system for a couple years. Check this out:
