The average rate of return for FY06 will work. The rate of return as of Feb 2007 will work as well. If possible, please provide a link. I've done research to little avail. I have seen both 10% and 13%.

the industry standard source is an annual volume titled "Stocks, Bonds, Bills, and Inflation" by Ibbotson Associates. You'll find it in better libraries, usually ones that serve a college school of business. The 2006 annual came out about in April so it may be there now -- usually in the reference section.

Of course, you might just look up Standard and Poors on the web and see if they offer the information free.

Standard stock trading websites such as your broker or a charting service will also have this -- however, they likely want to be paid.

Go to Yahoo Finical page! Best finical info anywhere.

Click on the S&P 500 and you will get the day, week and year range. Click on MARKET and you will see all the indexes and their returns.
