Yes, it has happened before, the very first winner of the NBA Finals MVP award. Jerry West of the LA Lakers in 1969 won the award despite losing the NBA title to the Celtics in 7 games. For being Finals MVP, Jerry West was awarded a car. The car was GREEN. Ouch!

I doubt it will ever happen again.

There already was. Jerry West of the Lakers was MVP in the '69 Finals despite losing to Bill Russell and the Celtics.

It happened before. In the '69 finals when the Celtics won the championship but the finals MVP was Jerry West of the Lakers who lost the series.

It has actually already happened once. Jerry West did it with the Lakers when they lost to the Celts in 7 in 1969. Its a rare thing and I doubt it will happen again anytime soon
