With my first baby, I went to my OB visit 2 weeks before my due date and his exam ruptured my mucus plug. I went into labor about 18 hours later (he did warn that it may make me deliver sooner). My second child I had a different doctor (damn insurance companies) who did not rupture the mucus plug, and my membranes began stripping on their own, over the course of about a week, even in the delivery room (I had to be induced after my due date). If your membranes are already stripped - good for you! You'll be bringing home a screaming bundle of joy in no time.

i replaced into in touch in a communicate approximately this final week the place some women have been debating no rely if or no longer it replaced into clever. For the main area, it looked like if the toddler is waiting, you would be contracting very quickly after the membranes or stripped. curiously, stripping the membranes reasons particular hormones to be released that set off hard paintings. If the toddler and your physique are not waiting no longer something will ensue. by the variety, the lady who extra the subject rely up had her membranes stripped that day and did have her toddler a pair of days afterwards.

You never know until you try! For some women, stripping the membranes gets labor started right away. Other women wait for days and nothing happens so they have to go back in to be induced.

The procedure is uncomfortable at its best and very painful at its worst.

For my part, I think it's best for labor to start on its own. Baby will come when ready. And many doctors think you are "overdue" when in fact your due date might be wrong.

Stripping of membranes sometimes works and sometimes doesn't... everybody is different. It can be very painful though, and I think it's better to wait for labor to start spontaneously. Your baby knows when it is time to be born, and unless there is a huge medical reason why your labor NEEDS to start ASAP, just keep on waiting and hang in there. I don't agree with induction unless there is a good reason.

My wife had this done three times with our first child and it didn't work she had to be induced. But it does work and is a step you should take before considering induction.
