If you had been given a bob pocket money (in the 60s or 70s), what jaw-breaking sweets would you have bought with it - or would you have used thruppence, or a tanner, to go the Saturday afternoon "pictures"?

Well, in the fifties (I'm getting on a bit) my Mam would give me a tanner on Saturday with which I bought the following. A bag of semi-stale buns from the village baker for a penny, entrance fee to the local picture house on Saturday afternoon was tuppence, and the remaining thruppence went on a bag of chips after the matinee'. Happy days in a Scottish village.

The only sweets i remember are M&B bars and penny whoppers..
as for the pictures, the cheap seats at the front were thruppence, and the more expensive seats were sixpence(was that a tanner lol)
Oh the good old days when everything was simple and uncomplicated..good memories. : x )

Sweet peanuts, Army and Navy (paregoric-whatever that meant) drops, rainbow drops, and Saturday MORNING pictures (ABC Minors-I had a badge) to see part fourteen of 'Zorro' (Never saw part one, or the last one), and something in black and white from the Children's Film Foundation.
Oh God, it was all so long ago.

The Saturday arvo pics were among the best moments of my life as a kid - even if I didn't understand what was actually going on.

I can remember my mother giving me $2 and sending me to the store for milk, bread and eggs. I would use the change left over on candy, usually rainbow suckers and root beer logs.
