You might recall vivid dreams, but you do not know what is going on around you in the extramental world. Furthermore, dreams can be accounted for scientifically. One does not need to resort to the soul in order to explain dreams.

Ever heard of people passing out drunk?

I did not give you a thumbs down and I never said that I've passed out drunk before. But obviously some people have had that experience. They usually report that they do not remember a thing while about what happened in the extramental world while they were passed out. One need not become intoxicated to pass out, however. People do sometimes faint for one reason or another. Cheers!

Immortal souls have nothing to do with memory.

My theory on why sleep is the way it is, is based on our
waking hours and the energy which people expend
on being a participant in nature. Sleep contributes to
the awareness of effectiveness in nature. If there was
no sleep then conflictive energy wouldn't have any
reprieve from each other. Furthermore, the energy
contributed in daily life would more likely be taken
for granted. Often it is the absence of a contributor
which brings the contributor's actual contributions
to attention. The reciprocal is also true that the
contributor recognizes the absence of the contribution
of nature through sleep, and on waking has a greater
appreciation for what life has to offer.

What to believe or not to believe -- might be the other question!

If you are a Christian the teaching is plain. The Bible is quite certain about the soul -- Paul spoke about our mortality and the sting of death, the victory of death. If we had immortal souls or spirits Paul's comments would have no value!

On this HP the subject is discussed in several articles:

Why don't we remember? Because we don't have immortal souls? Actually I don't see any connection between being unconscious and the idea of a soul.

Because the soul has its own body and mind which only connects with the unconcious part of your body and mind.
