Okay so this guy is selling a 1999 Kawasaki Ninja 1000cc for $2200 obo. It is in good condition besides a few scratches. This other guy is selling a 1987 Kawasaki Ninja 750 R with 24,000 miles for $1800 with also a few scratches. For a few hundred dollars more anyone would grab the 99. Why are the prices so close, am I missing something?

Because it is a scam. There was no 99 ninja 1000. There was a 900 ninja and a zx11 in 99. the 1000cc ninja was available in the late eighties, then again as the zx10 in 04.

"A few scratches" could mean he totally trashed the thing while doing something stupid, replaced a few key parts, and now some moron will only see a couple small scratches and not even pay attention that the frame is completely warped. You know those guys rode those things hard. You don't buy a sport bike and ride it like a grandma. Good luck.

Until recently all my bikes have been in the 20+ year old bracket, and they almost all came to me with under 24K miles. The price on the '87 is too high. I never paid even $1000 for any of them. It's true I wasn't buying Ninjas, but still....

The 1000 will need new tires and has probably been rode harder than a horse in the kentucky derby and put away wet.The few scratches could mean he has laid it down.Check the sliders to see if there could be more damage. Also look at the chain and sproket to see how hard they have been ridin.Ask for reciepts of maintenance that has been performed on the bike.take somebody with you that knows motorcycle and what to look for as far as signs of abuse. These are road racers and have more than likely been rode hard.
