I like to cut it close, with the blade lowered as much as possible. Would raising the blade and keeping the grass a few inches higher be healthier for it? Does it even matter? Whats the best way to keep it green?

Basically, whatever you cut off on top is the same amount of root that your killing below ground. Cut no more than 1/3rd of the blade and mow more frequently... this will keep the grass healthy and keep invasive weeds at a minimum.

You only need to fertilize in the fall - this is when the plant is actively storing nutrients for the following spring and most of the fertilizer will go down to the roots. Next spring, when it starts growing, you'll have a steady, even greening up of your grass and won't have to mow furiously like everyone else who decided to fertilize in spring! Trust me, it works! ;)

Well don't cut too short, leave the grass about 2.5 inches long, if you cut it to short then the grass can't photosynthesis properly and will not be able to stay strong. Also the weeds will be able to take over if the grass is not strong enough.

Fertilizing is good as well. Scotts weed and feed is a good product, but if you don't want to go chemicals, you can get fertilizer such as compost cow poo. Spread this over your lawn either in the spring or in the fall. It is healthy for the grass and more natural.

Also when you do mow, mow a little more often, taking off only a little at a time. Then leave the clippings on the ground. They will compost and as long as they are not to long, the neighbors will not see them or care. Another idea is to aerate the lawn. Basically punching holes in the lawn, letting the roots have air.

Hope this helps.

Low cutting is harmful as the blade needs some length to keep nourishing the root system. By all means, raise your blade so that you're leaving more grass growing by height, that will produce a lush lawn.
Spring and Fall fertilizing is sufficient, water early in the day so that there's always moisture in the ground.

dont do that! you are turning it yellow arent you? this means you are cutting it way to short. set your blade appx 2 1/2 inches off the ground and mow in opposite directions than you did the time before. the height helps a healthy lawn stay weed free the direction helps because you change the angle of the grass making it turn towards the sun thus making it stronger.
