when a number is decreased by 20% of itself, the result is 20. I know the answer is 25 but i dont know how to write it in algebraic form.
x - .20 = 20 ????

let x be the number

the number is decreased by 20% of that number

x - .2x = 20

now just solve and you should get 25

You were very close

x - 20% x = 20 which is the same as saying

x - 0.20 x = 20

0.80 x = 20

x = 20 /0.80 = 25
