It will work but you will have to call your ISP and they will have to enable it. Once you register with them, it will work. I had the same issue with AT&T Yahoo and when I hooked up the other modem, it would not work. When I called AT&T, they had me read off the model and serial number to them and then he said... "Ok... it should work now". I tried it and it was working. I am not sure exactly what they did on their end but my guess is that it is a way to prevent using stolen modems sort of like the satellite company Dish Network does.
I hope this helps.

Yes. But it will require having a phone service feed for each of them. Even if you get DSL without telephone service (expensive), you still need the wire. Not knowing why... unless you need that much bandwidth, you could set up a couple of appropriate routers to share service on independent networks. If you need that kind of bandwidth you may want to check into getting more advanced service.

I don't think it will work because the lines of your business and your house is quite different. Even if you have the same ISP (Internet Service Provider), it will still not work because of a different line.
You may consult your ISP regarding this matter if you want your connection to work the same for both business and home.

Yes the modems should work it is whether or not you have teh correct drivers installed if they are different. If you still ahve the install disc for whichever modem you tend to use, install the driver first then connect up teh replacement driver - if you have XP it will probably auto-load the correct driver.
