i dont i consider myself like many argentines dont consider themselfs hispanic i think its because our background is italian and spanish and we dont look hispanic like some other people do look for example mexicans, bolivians, and perubians, ect. but sometimes i think people get offended when us argentines say we're not latin but its the truth because if you see the majority of the argentine population it is european as in meaning the people look whiter and blonder than most latin american countries do and not to mention how the country looks and our culture

do you agree with me or not anyways this is not something i want to just state it's just for me to know what people think. and i also wanted to say i have a lot of mexican and bolivian friends who agree with me.

I agree I dont think Argentines are Latins and to say they are and they are some how not different is to be completely blind. You just have to compare most Argentines look like normal white people Blonde or brown hair. The cities look like in Europe, the culture is European. One person said well its not in Europe, its not but we are still Europeans our culture etc. is from Europe. She is not being racist the fact of the matter is "latino" has now a "race" attached to it. Theses days it is like that and people who are "Latino/Hispanic" are often indigenious looking even tho thats not what we use anymore, we say he looks like a "latino" here in Argentina. Argentina is much much whiter then Chile. Chile is majority Mestizo. If you think Indians are a significant portion of Argentina's population then you are dead wrong they are only .5 of the entire population! And you also need to read your history boooks. Anyways Chile is not more White then Argentina just that is plain wrong you read to read a book or something because that is just plain wrong. If you confuse most people from Chile as white and people from the North and Pampas as not then you are either very dumb or color blind or seeing it in reserve , I am from the North (Misiones Province) and I aint no Indian ok, nor are most people they are just as white as anywhere else. The North or the Pampas for that matter are not any different then the rest of the country. So, I am sorry to say you are wrong in just about everything you said . If you make fun of us I do not care! Either should any other Argentine no skin off my back personally. We are what we are. If you dont like it deal with it. I do get that opionion though that people get offended that we are Latin like if it really matters to them I am proud of my European hertiage along with other Argentines it seems. To the girl who said we are not Europeans you are wrong We are, why do you think Europeans connect to us so much? I go to Italy and all I hear is your from Argentina! wow! Try that with you domincan hertiage.... Latinos that get offended by us being European and proud should just face it and get over it because we are not going anywhere... We will never be Latin our culture is way different then you guys . So basically what I am trying to say is good for good for you and let these latinos and Yankees bug you be proud of your hertiage. Be proud of being Argentine.

Wow I cannot believe how wrong so many of you are!

If you are Spanish decendent you are hispanic. The indigenous people that lived in the Americas are know as the pre-Hispanic culture. Or the time before the Europeans arrived.

Hispanic is a roman word. The romans renamed Spain Hispania. Also, if you are born in Latin America regardless of race, you are considered Latina/o. Hispanic or Latin doesn't mean indigenous. You can be 100% say.... Romanian but if you're born in a Latin country, you are Latin! It's just a culture not a race!!

I'm an Argentine and Peruvian so I've really gotten into seeing is Argentina really considered Latino. And although is Hispanic and our origins come from Europe which should be considered Caucasian. I really do think we are Latino. We are considered part of Latin America an even though we could be a very distinct compared to a Peruvian.

Interesting.. First of all, how would you define "latin"? Latin America is the region of the Americas where Romance languages — those derived from Latin, namely Spanish and Portuguese — are officially or primarily spoken. So, Argentina is included in this category.

Believe it or not there are white and blonde Bolivians, too. If you go to the Northwest of Argentina, there are some non-white-skinned Argentines. Argentina has also a significant population of aborigins such as Guarani, Aymara, Diaguita and Mapuche. They are not blonde but they`re Argentine.

You mention that most Argentinian people`s heritage is Spanish or Italian, which is true. The term Hispanic is related to Spain, since Hispanic refers to the ancient Hispania (Iberia) actual Spain and Portugal. So, if someone`s ancestors were Spanish, I guess that person has Hispanic heritage. You`re kinda contradicting yourself... Cause you said because most Argentines descended from Spanish people they`re not Hispanic.

The term 'Latin' doesn`t define the colour of your skin, hair or eyes, it refers to the region, therefore the culture you come from. In other words, Latin or Hispanic doesn`t mean you are dark skinned. I get the impression that you are misunderstanding the meaning of the word Latin and Hispanic. Don`t confuse indigenous heritage with Latin American. For your relief, people can be white and blonde and still be a Latin Americans. Looks don`t define your cultural background.

Maybe your Bolivian and Mexican friends who agree with you don`t understand the term as well as you. Because you`re white and blonde doesn`t mean you are not Latin. You are still Latin, maybe you mean that you are not a tan-skinned or dark haired Latin. I guess we can blame it all on the stereotypes portayed by the media and people who fall for it.

Y bueh~ Espero que ahora sepas la diferenciar los terminos.

Most argentines don't consider themselves latin, but we are. When it comes to the language, we are latins as Spanish is a latin languaje. When it comes to ethnic background, those argentinians who are descendants of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French and even Romanian people, are Latin, while those who are descendants of British, German, Irish, Welsh, Swedish and all those other non-Latin ethnic people, are not.

You're right when saying we are very different from other Latin American countries, but thats because we had a huge inmigration and they were not only Spanish, but a lot of other european people and even settlers who were not Latins, which is a caracteristic that didn't happend in the others Latin America countries. Also, the average population is "whiter" because Indias were very persuited here, as happened in the United States and Canada, while in the other countries started a proccess of mestization.

If you are from Argentina, then you should know that in the Pampas and northern Argentina there are THOUSANDS of indians which, like you, are argentinians. In EVERY South American country you will find descendants of Italians, British, Germans, Welsh,Spanish, etc.
In fact, the country which has the biggest percentage of white people per capita is Chile (and NOT Argentina) as most of the population comes from Germany and England (very few Mapuches are still living in Chile).
Argentinians have a big problem: they don't consider themselves latin (or South American) due to an ego problem which they cannot see. They even have a different way of talking Spanish which is not even accepted by the Royal society of languages.
You say that the majority of Argentinian population don't look latin? where are you looking? At your barrio porteño only? Take a look at Argentinian programmes on TV, take the train from Retiro to Tigre, go to the market in Tigre, travel to Mendoza, Gualeguaychu, Pampas, Rosario, Ushuaia, Bariloche, etc and you WILL find lots of people who look latin or South American.
I have been to Mexico, Bolivia and Peru and I have even seen more "white european" people than I've seen in 7 years that I've been living and travelling in Argentina.
And then Argentinians are offended when the rest of south americans tell jokes on you.... so arrogant....you are as much latin or south american like the rest of the continent, you just pretend you're not which is more pathetic.

Oh boy, this is by far the stupidest question I've answered.... well i really can't tell the difference between a person, from Uruguay, Paraguay Chile or Argentina and as far as i know, they all have indians on those places (not that is a bad thing) but come on, Argentina its country in South America, stop believing that you guys are Europeans, if it makes you happy think that you are then move to Europe, you obviously were born in the wrong country.

¿que nace de un argentino con una empleada del servicio?
Un portero que se cree dueño del edificio.

....by the way if you were able to understand the joke on top then think of this "Hispanic" specifically refers to Spain, and to the nations of the Americas that speak Spanish.
