i have already changed the switch on the trans. keys wont come out and wont shift out of park without pushing the the shift release button. i purchased the other neutral safety switch for the steering colum and removed covers and cant find it. it is about the size of a quarter. does anyone know where it is???

there are two neutral safety switches on this car. one is on the trans(already replaced) and the other one is supposed to be on the steering colum.

If it is a floor shifter, there are two solenoids under the shifter column. One of them might be bad. There is also a switch above the brake pedal that may be at fault. This will not allow the shifter to come out of park unless the brake is applied. That switch sends a signal to one of those solenoids under the column and lets the shifter release. A repair manual on your particular vehicle will be helpful in locating the components on your system.

the neutral switch isnt on the steering colum its on the top if the transmission

Do your brake lighs work? If they don't, it may interfere with the propper operation of the shifter functions.

ADDED: If your shifter is on the floor, there is no steering column switch.
Look next to the shifter selector it's self.
