The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate the organized habits and opinions of the masses constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of the country....It remains a fact that in almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons....It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world. That is why all US Citizens should fear Fox News.

I do occasionally watch FOX News, although I am not a Democrat (I will take the title of "liberal", however). For me, there are three basic problems with the organization. First, the line between reporting and editorializing is blurred beyond all recognition. Yes, it's true, all news organizations edit their stories--but that is not the same as constantly commenting on the news in a way which transforms reporting into opinion. Second, the kind of editorializing is not fair and balanced--it is decidedly Neo-conservative. Yes, they have Dems and Reps and Indies on their news (again, that's opinion, not news!), but the slant of announcers and hosts is almost invariably to belittle the opinions of those with moderate or liberal views. Often that includes belittling the speaker as well. Finally, the quality of editorializing, whatever its political suasion, is poor and simplistic. Events are portrayed with very little complexity, and many of the speakers on their various shows offer opinions that transcend the simple and go into the moronic. Compare the conservative thinking of someone like William F. Buckley--articulate, intelligent, subtle--and FOX's talking heads are laughable. I hope that goes some way in explaining why I don't watch FOX all that often. It's not that I fear it; it's that I already know what they are going to say. I have better things I could be doing with my viewing time, like watching reruns of Leave it to Beaver. Those at least make me laugh. Cheers.

It isn't fear, it's loathing.
Fox habitually presents lies as truth.
The other outlets you list are conservative; there are no left-wing outlets. Fox is extreme right.
For years, CNN, etc. didn't spew liberal anything, but were mere stenographers for the far right.
It isn't fear, fear has nothing to do with it.
We object to the pretense that what Fox does is news, or fair, or balanced.
We don't support that pretense.
Because it's a lie.
Anything done by Fox is unlikely to be fair or reasonable, but specifically designed to misinform, distort the truth, propagandize.
If you want an informative, fair debate, you don't go to biased liars.
It's not fear; it's called being rational.
If you've been watching liars for years, you probably don't get what that means.

May be you should educate your self and find out a little more about Fox News before you utter questions that are complete nonsense. Fox News is so biased and one sided and they are the propaganda channel for the Republican Party to keep morons like you informed with what they want you to hear, not even what is close to being the truth.

There is no fear - but when a bunch of self proclaimed "commentators" use the pretence of news to distribute dishonest party propaganda we will criticise.
What I wonder is why conservatives are so afraid of fair news sources (two of the three you name above endorsed Bush in 2000 - all three attacked Clinton mercilessly) that they have to create this liberal media myth.

This is a rediculous question. The "liberal bias" of the other media outlets is a brilliant marketing ploy by the right.
The repub spin machine also turns the passive lambs of a lazy electorate into zelots who hate trial lawyers (John Edwards), war heros (John Kerry), and strong women (Hillary Clinton).
This year is a perfect example - we are stuck in the middle of a senseless folly in Iraq, so the polling wizards came up with the critical issue of our time - Illegal Immigration! Brilliant! We don't want people to worry their pretty little heads about the WAR, so let's get everyone mad at people who came to America to WORK. People who feed the economy by working our fields and cutting our meat and cleaning our homes. Clearly this is more important than ending a war, developing and implementing a new energy policy, and improving our economic standing against the Euro. Silly, silly repubs.
No one is afraid of Fox News. It is just that sensible people don't waste their time with such blather.

It's precisely because the rest of the media (besides FOX & talk radio, that is) has such a pleasant liberal bias, that Fox (and AM radio) strike such horror in the eyes (and ears) of libs. It's like the horror that Hugo Chavez held for RCTV - which led him to close it down when he finally had the chance - when you have the media /nearly/ sown up, the lone hold out is particularly infuriating.

I don't think they're afraid of them.
My guess is they see no advantage or possible gain by recognizing or dignifying FOX News as a credible non-partisan journalistic forum.
I think they know about FOX's prejudice and nazi agenda and they want nothing to do with it.
How can a liberal possibly be served by embracing FOX News?

I'm only afraid of the fact that so many people watch Fox news and nothing else.
Most people who watch other sources, also watch multiple sources often including Fox News and are generally better informed.
