Because we have an incompetent president determined to divide the world into a new cold war, this time religously based (but profit motivated) who as a result of his insane foreign policy attacking effectively stone aged countries has allowed NK to develop nuclear weapons on his watch.

I hope no such event occurs anywhere on the planet ever
I hope that this is not a naive fantasy but a something attainable
If it must happen - I hope I am right under it as I do not want to die of slow radiation poisoning or so far away from it - that I am unaffected if such a thing is possible .
That said here are 2 scenario's
A nuclear power plant is run by Homer Simpson for real
Some idiot smuggles one in and lets it off -

1) The U.S. Government refuses to stop people from sneaking across it's borders.
2) Dictators in the Middle East and Asia are going to give, or have given, nuclear weapons to Islamo-Facists.

1) That Yale study that just came out saying that it's most likely that a nuke (in the possession of those who want us dead) is already in our borders.
2) That guy on TV today that gave his second warning that we would see one. (I believe according to his culture, we should really get worried when he gives us the third warning).
