TSN Rookie of the Year (1995)
5-time All-Star (1996-98, 2000-01)
National League MVP (1999)
2-time Silver Slugger at 3rd Base (1999-2000)
Holds the Major League Record for most consecutive games with an extra-base hit (14, tied with Paul Waner).
8 straight 100 plus RBI seasons (1996-2003)
Most homeruns in a season by a National League switch hitter (45 in 1999)
Third most home runs for a switch hitter behind Eddie Murray (504), and Mickey Mantle (536)

I don't know we will have to wait and see but he definitely needs to win a WS to put him over the top as a first timer HOF.

Chipper is an excellent player and well respected but not quite a HOF caliber player. He never dominated an era and that is suppose to be the rule of thumb to use if a player hasn't hit any milestones. He won't get 3000 hits, he won't hit 500 homeruns or any other milestones.

I'm a Red Sox fan and think that Jim Rice should be in the HOF. You can join my club.

I have these debates with friends all the time (who belongs in the Hall). Judging a player today is very hard. A player needs to be the best or near the best during his era for a first ballot. There have been tons of players that people thought were sure Hall of Famers, but 5 years after their career ended you realize , "maybe they were not that great" when you compare them to the best of the best.
Dale Murphy, Harold Baines, Jim Rice, Don Mattingly ( everyone thought he was in after his MVP year), Strawberry, Albert Belle, McGwire, Gooden, Morris..etc, etc,...
Way, way to early to say for sure.

I believe he needs a few more really big years for consideration. The problem is he is getting older and some health issues jump up to bite him every year. I would say it is a long shot right now.
