I currently run windows XP on my laptop. The laptop has became soooo slow, i think because it has so much rubbish on like programs i don't use or need any more. I have bought a windows Vista Home basic disk to go on my laptop. I would like to remove every single file on the computer and every single Windows XP file and put Vista onto it so that the hard drive only has the Vista installation on and the system performs like its brand new.

Boot from the install media and follow the on-screen instructions. Simple! You will, of course, notice that Vista runs a lot slower.

out the disk in the drive n reboot n boot from the cd and remove the partition and create a new one and install vista. Vista basic wont have ne of the graphic effects like aero glass and other stuf like media center, so dont expect it to be better than XP. My advice is not to install vista on a computer that came with xp, well at least for now b/c the drivers are not out for all devices yet.

Well.. you can do 1 of two things.. pop in the CD, and choose install but if i was you I'd pop in the CD, Restart then the CD should load up (do you know if you have the upgrade version or the full (it should say on the box) cuz if you just have the upgrade then you can't do a fresh new clean install like you wanna) anyways if Vista doesn't just load up after you restarted (it should ask "if you wanna boot from CD/DVD press any key..." or something similar) then go into your bios settings (restart the computer and hold down the Delete button.. not backspace.. the delete button, and you should come into a blue screen, but sometimes it's not the del key.. it can be F1 or F2 and so on) and some where in there you will have the option to what you want your computer to boot from.. like the Floppy drive or the CD drive (which is what you wanna do) or the Hard-drive (where XP is on and you wanna erase and put Vista) but choose to load from CD rom and follow the instuctions then after it is all complete go back into your bios settings and choose to boot from harddrive again.. oh yeah.. ACTAULLY after you have booted from the CD once you want need to again.. if i'm right after you've booted from it once and you go through part of the setup it will restart like once or twice and you'll get the message (do you wanna boot from CD/DVD press anykey blah blah blah) eachtime. so you can just go back into your bios settings and change it back so it will boot from hard drive.. lol

here are some links incase you didn't get all that LOL

If you read the questions you'll find that most people are trying to go the other way. If you install Vista and have the problems others are having you can't go back unless you have a XP disc.

Before you start doing anything go to the Microsoft site and download the Vista Upgrade Advisor, install and run it. It will tell you of any problems that you will encounter before you actually install Vista, so that you can get any new drivers etc' before you do your upgrade.

When installing the upgrade click on the "Advanced" options. It should give you an option to delete your hard drive and install a clean Vista.
