First: multiply the 1st & 3rd term to get 6. find two numbers that giv eyou 6 when multiplied & 5 (2nd term) when added/subtracted. the numbers are (2 & 3). rewrite the expression with the new middle terms.

x^2 + 2x + 3x + 6 = 0

Sec: group "like" terms & factor both sets of parenthesis.

(x^2 + 2x) + (3x + 6) = 0
x(x + 2) + 3(x + 2) = 0
(x+2)(x+3) = 0

Third: solve the "x" variables - set both parenthesis to "0"

a. x+2 = 0
x+2-2=0-2
x = 0-2
x = -2

b. x+3 = 0
x+3-3=0-3
x = 0-3
x = -3

solutions: -3, -2

factor
x^2 + 5x + 6=0
(x+3)(x+2)=0
so either x+3=0, x+2=0 or both do
x+3=0, x= - 3
x+2=0, x= - 2
these are your two solutions

Factor first.
(x + 3) (x + 2)

Set each equal to 0.
x + 3 = 0
so, x = -3

x + 2 = 0
so, x = -2

Your answers are..
x = -3,-2
