It's extremely rare for a fish to actually throw up food. Most fish are unable to as a matter of fact. I don't know for certain if convicts are able or not, but odds are strongly against it. Most likely he is simply holding it in his mouth trying to soften it and wet it enough to swallow. Convicts are greedy eaters and often pack their mouths full that way.

Most cichlids will eat pellets before they've softened up enough and hold them in their mouths, munching and spewing bits from their gills :) Attractive, huh?
Some cichlids are just too bulky to eat much of the fish flakes (you should see my oscar and dempsey try to steal the flakes from the severum and parrot!) Eat, maim, destroy.....spit it out.
I'm just wondering why it's taking 10 minutes to spit out the flakes. That's normally in a few seconds..since they're so easily eaten.
Try softening your pellets for a few minutes in a cup with tank water in it, then feeding it to your fish and let us know if the problem continues.

Magic is 100% on the mark. Cichlids stuff thier mouths, then expell the food then eat that. It's not throwing up, its just making the food easyer to digest.

Im not sure how much you feed, if you only feed a very small amount then there really is nothing more you can do.

I would suggest to try to feed one pellet and watch what he does. Feed him slow, I had a oscar that got a pellet stuck in his mouth that took him a few day's to dislodge.

It is very seldom for fish to have to throw up their food. I think you fed the wrong food for your Convicts. Try a different type of food. This might help your case.
