These are a few of my favorite songs...don't give me points for it, though...because I just copied it from another answer I wrote...
0% of them have anything to do with school.

The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby
Red Hot Chili Peppers - My Friends
Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes
Kansas - Carry on Wayward Son or Dust in the Wind
The Doors - People are Strange
Pink Floyd - Nobody Home/The Trial/Welcome To The Machine/Have a Cigar/Time - Can't pick ;(
Yes - I've seen all good people
Manson - Tourniquet (LOVE the intro)
Aerosmith - Dream on or Janie's Got a Gun - Can't Pick ;(
The Who - Can't Explain
Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower (Bob Dylan did this one first, but Hendrix totally topped it)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesday's Gone
Led Zep - Ten Years Gone
AC/DC - Shoot To Thrill
Alice in Chains - Grind
Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper (Live version only. I hate the normal one)
Foreigner - Cold As Ice
Guns N' Roses - Don't Cry (Original)
The Mamas & The Papas - California Dreamin' (My grandfather was the lead singers best friend, haha)
Mika - Erase (This guy reminds me so much of Freddy Mercury)
Nirvana - Lake of Fire (Love the guitar in this song...)
Queen - Bohemean Rhapsody or Bicycle or Save Me
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Silverchair - Cemetery (Not the best lyrics ever, but the electric violin is awesome)
Styx - Come Sail Away
Van Halen - Jump!

Yeah, that link is a lot of technical stuff. I understand it being a songwriter but why post it on this question? Anyways...

"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. This song became really popular with my school's own current senior class after a senior committed suicide. The lyrics fit alomst perfectly with any situation like that so that's where that recommendation comes from.

"Goodbye Cruel World" by Pink Floyd. All of our seniors hate our school because the administrators are really strict and everything and they come to know the school as one of the few places they really know making it their second world. The goodbye and cruel part should therefore be self-explanatory.

"Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's not really taken as that sort of graduation-like song but the lyrics and meaning behind it do actually make it good for graduations. The only thing is some school might get a little panicky if you start blasting out Skynyrd because they use a lot of Confederate references in both visual and lyrical ways.

"Mrs. Robinson" by Simon and Garkfunkel. Not only does this song appear in "The Graduate" but back in the late 60's it was also an anti-Nam protest song and very well correlates to today's War on Terror.

"Going to California" by Led Zeppelin. Another kind of new-beginning song in its own sense and of course Zep is just Zep. It's a great song from a great album too.

((edit)): "School's Out" is one of the most overused songs out there for the last day of school
