I was on the depo shot for almost three years and now have been off of it for 8 months now and my fiance and I dont use condoms at all in hopes of a baby. We havent used a condom what so ever over the past 8 months and I havent gotten pregnant not once. I'm starting to fear that I cant get pregnant again ( I have a three year old son already). Is it that I cant get pregnant or just because I was on the shot? If it is because of the shot when will I be able to get pregnant? I really want another baby.

You are supposed to go off the Depo shot about a year in advance to trying, because it can take that long to get your cycle back. My friends went off it, and switched to birth control the year before they were going to try, and then went off that 3 months before trying.

The fact that a woman should receive the shot every three months does not mean that fertility can be restored within 3 months. The average I’ve heard of, from women I’ve talked to who have had the shots, is at least 18 months before they can conceive. The chances of having a miscarriage are greater due to the fact that the reproductive hormones are greatly affected by the shot causing an imbalance. Also, conceiving too soon after the shot, or right before the shot, can cause birth defects in the baby. In my best suggestion you should really wait until you have your period then try again. If you can NOT conceive then you should go to your doctor to see if the depo shot hurt your uterus. Just saying if you are that worried go see a health specialist.

every person's body is different, and it can take awhile for ur body to adjust after not being on the shot especially if you've been on it for three years in a row. I would give it a fe more months if its still not back in order then go to your doctor to see what can be done

I had the same problem but I seen the doctor. She gave these meds that got my hormones back on track. It's something about the depo suppresses one of your major hormones. It takes about a year for it to go back naturally. Good Luck!

It takes normal healthy people up to 12 months to conceive, it takes those getting off depo up to 18 -which it says in the patient insert that they should have given you when you got the shot:

Return of Fertility
Because DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection is a long-acting birth control
method, it takes some time after your last injection for its effect to wear off. Based on the
results from a large study done in the United States, of those women who stop using
DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection in order to become pregnant, about half of
those who become pregnant do so in about 10 months after their last injection; about twothirds
of those who become pregnant do so in about 12 months, about 83% of those who
become pregnant do so in about 15 months, and about 93% of those who become
pregnant do so in about 18 months after their last injection. The length of time you use
DEPO-PROVERA Contraceptive Injection has no effect on how long it takes you to
become pregnant after you stop using it.
