A good start is to wear a tampon with a panty shield in the day, then a pad at night. You want to change your tampon regularly (like, every 4 hours), whether it's saturated or not, to prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome. Read the pamphlet that comes with every box of tampons.

But, if you want to keep wearing pads...go for it. There's no right or wrong answer.

Tampons are so much more comfortable than pads. With a pad you feel like you're wearing a diaper and you're always self-conscious, wondering if people can see the pad or if there's a leak.

With a tampon, you can sort of forget about your period in between changing the tampon. Tampons can be tricky to get used to, though. You have to make sure you get it all the way in. If you can feel it at all, that probably means it didn't go in all the way, and you have to start over.

Also, make sure you know that a tampon goes in your vagina (duh) but you pee out of your urethra, which is a separate hole. So whoever said you have to change one when you pee was wrong. You don't have to change it.

The best tampons to try for your first time are the really skinny ones. Try ones that say "Lite" or "Junior" and the ones with the plastic applicator. If you're having trouble, you can also try using some KY jelly or lubricant to get it to go in easier. Good luck! You will be glad you switched!

Whoa mama tampons are bad! They change the normal ph levels for your vagina and that isn't good. Also, they are always associated with toxic shock syndrome and even if you don't get it why would you want to take the risk? Also, think about how they get them so white - definitely with chlorine bleach or a bleach of some kind. Why would you want to put that inside such a sensitive area? Nothing should go up there unless a man is on the end *wink*.

There are alternatives like The Keeper or The Diva Cup, but if you're sqeamish about blood that probably isn't a good idea.

it doesnt matter what one you use. i used a pad for a year and have used tampons ever since. you can always try out a tampon and see if you get on with it or not. it is easier to use applicator rampons and the first few times u may find it uncomfortable or even painful but if u want to use tampons then do not give up because it will get easier

Tampons are SO much better than pads...but that's my own personal opinion. Weigh your options. When I was 13, I was scared to try them, and I just asked myself:

' OK, what could be worse than sitting in my own blood every 30 days?!?! '

Yep, that's when I tried tampons, and will never use anything else.

Well first you should talk to your mom about it, and if you feel comfortable and she feel comfortable then you should try the tampon and see how you like it.

i switched from pads to tampons and it was the best thing that i did because it is WAY better then pads. Trust me you dont feel as uncomfortable as you would wearing pads.

tampon, they are so much better and feel great! Its really easy and pain free to just make sure you dont wear it more than 8 hours at a time or you can get TSS (toxic shock syndrom) but otherwise use them!
