As a paranormal investigator with over 15 years in the field I am going to make my most educated guesses to answer this question.
There are many theories on this, and the most common one is that most enmities are from a period in time when the equipment being used didn’t exist, therefore they have no idea what it is and consequently don’t know to avoid it.
Using this theory you could also theorize that activity would increase in these cases since they might be intrigued by the fact that a light comes on or a sound occurs when they get closer to equipment.
Another common theory is that ghost don’t know they are dead and continue to live life as if they were still alive, in this alternate reality we in the physical realm appear almost ghost like to them and are dismissed, honestly if a ghost came by you with a human detector would you know it was there or even to avoid it?
There are also the cases where a modern ghost might want to be seen / heard. If a person were murdered they might want to help solve that murder, if they have loved ones they might want to send a message. Or they could be like Houdini and want to send a message that there is or isn’t an afterlife.
The field name is paranormal investigation for a reason it is because all the activity in it is para (beyond, outside, or altered from) the normal, which makes a definitive answer impossible.

lol...
1) I think SOME ghosts WANT to be contacted, or want their 'hosts' to know they are there.
2) Ghosts aren't stupid, in my opinion they maintain the same 'intelligence' they had as living beings.
3) Not all ghosts will 'detect' the equipment, because it'll depend on their electromagnetic fields (if they do indeed have one)... half the ghosts probably don't CARE if they ARE detected or not... they all have their own purposes for being around...
As for those equipment(s)... not EVERYTHING caught on camera is nessessarily a ghost.
Eg: "Orb photos" can be both faked or accidental exposures of dust (movement) and/or camera glitches. (I know this because I've experimented with them).
Catching a REAL ghost on camera/film is not really a matter of patience, I think its a matter of luck... and most of the time, its accidental.

Of course they are, and often do so. That's precisely why a Ghost Hunter or Investigator doesn't get photo, video and EVP captures each time they conduct a Hunt. Did it ever occur to you that at times the Entity Wishes(!) to inter-act with the living??? Personally I've most definitely found this to be the case. Ghosts, it appears, retain some/all of the human traits they exhibited during their life-times, and the need to inter-act with, and be recognized by, others is a very strong trait in the human psyche.

If we stipulate that ghosts really do exist, there are several reasons why they may not "stay away" from recording equipment...
Again, presuming they exist, they may Not be able to see or hear. Seeing things requires eyes, and hearing sounds requires ears.
Maybe they exist in a sort of sleepwalking, or "sleep-haunting" state, and aren't really fully aware of the living around them or our gadgets.
Maybe they can see and hear just fine and they want to show themselves to our cameras and recorders.
Maybe have no control over where or when they manifest themselves.
If you're trying to prove the non-existence of ghosts/hauntings, you're gonna need a better argument. This one doesn't get you there. Sorry.

Apparently they do know enough to stay away from paranormal investigators' equipment... no ghosts have ever been shown to exist by such equipment. :)

It could be that the ghosts don't know what the equipment is. You have to remember that most ghosts are from time periods where this technology did not exist.
Also, please take into account that it is theorized that many intelligent ghosts do not even know that they are deceased.

1.) they might want to be detected which is the most logical reasoning for me. 2.)the equipment might send of like electrical waves and temporarily disrupt the ghost's senses well i hope this helped

Why would they? They don't have anything to hide. Some behave as if they want to communicate or are looking for help.
