Yes, they should be guarding YOUR national borders... not even a milimeter further as they do with us, in Mexico and of course, Iraq.

Technically elements of the US military are barred from any kind of civilian law enforcment unless an emergency is declared. This one is tricky. Is this an emergency? I'd say so, but others aren't so certain...in a legal sense. On the other hand, we do have a Coast Guard. As these folks aren't under the Dept. of Defense, unless so designated by the president, they do arrest powers. Now what could be done is to temporarily transfer US Army units to the control of the Dept. of the Treasury...the dept that controls the C/G. While this has never been done, I doubt if it's against the law. Suddenly, we have enough people to cover the border....problem, at least for an extended period, is solved. Will this happen? Don't count on it. Could it happen? Let us pray!

The national safeguard isn't below the administration of the federal government. It falls below the administration of the Governor of the guy states. The President can not call up the national safeguard without permission of the governors.

why its not like we've been attacked before or an independent commision has foudn that we have little security at our boarders or airports, sea ports, and trains.
we should ship all of our national guard to iraq. they really aren't doing anything here.
people in the midwest should move to avoid those tornados and stop looking for gov handouts! pick up and rebuild your own house. same for those 'katrina victims', they had ample time to leave.

I would put them on the Laredo Border because drug trafficking is very bad there. Also on the Sonora - Arizona border. When I was there I remember seeing 4 loud 4 x 4 trucks coming with their lights off coming from the AZ side with their lights off. It was 2 in the morning. I think they were drug traffickers because they were armed and came from the US.

YES. . . the National Guard should absolutely be guarding our national borders. If we dont guard our borders, we are essentially not enforcing our own laws and letting other nations know that we don't really care whether they break the laws in our country.

No, they are already way overwhlemed with their duties elsewhere. Get real. There is a reason why we have a Border Patrol agency, that's their job!
