Do any exist anywhere? This was a great place, and were similar to Sonic, but had great A&W Root Beer Floats, etc. I know A&W Root Beer is still produced. Have you ever been to one? Where was it located? The one I went to as a kid was located in Southeastern Colorado.

I'm in NE Ohio and I remember the A & W's with the car hops on skates.Music blaring from the speakers outside. We loved to hang around there socializing with all our friends, eating great(greasy) burgers and fries with frosty root beers.Fast cars and good friends made those times best. I do remember see some Dogs & Suds pop up here and there in the 80's.At one place ,a D&S showed up at an old A&W stand. They got car hops and all. That didn't last too long. Then some pizza shop tried a go at it there.Didn't survive.I guess after the A&W it became a bad spot to eat. Another major hangout was a Manners Big Boy.It was right beside a major park where everyone hung out ate.A major plus is it was open 24/7 too.

There are several A&W Root Beer stands still in Southern California. The one closest to me right now is located in Mentone, CA. Grrrrreeeeeaaaaaattttt Burgers, Fries, Onion Rings and, of course, the best Root Beer Float you can find on the face of the planet.

No I am not old enough to remember them. I read about them in history books. KIDDING! Yes I loved them. I have not seen one in many years. There are two A & W where I live in Anchorage, Alaska. They are both attached to gas stations and are not drive ups (except for the gasoline part), but you can go in and get food or a mug of rootbeer. Of course it comes in paper cups now and is not the same. If you buy a jug of it to take home though it is still just as good.

We don't have a Sonic here but I always see the ads for Sonic on cable TV.

I went to one as a kid too. Whenever I visited my grandma and grandpa up in Phillips, Wisconson, we would always go there to get a great rootbeer float and a burger and fries. It is a super small town so not much changes around there. I just went back for a visit two years ago and it was still there as busy as it used to be. I always looked forward to it. I can't find a root beer float anywhere to this day that measures up to those.

I used to work at A&W, high school years, roller skates and all. Yum. Its still open in my hometown in WA state. The menu has changed a little in 15 yrs, but they still do well with the selling of the Root Beer Floats and Bacon Cheeseburgers!
location- Shelton WA

I sure do.

I ate at one last summer.

Little Canada, MN -(5 miles North of St. Paul)
On Rice St. near 694

We pulled into a little stall, a girl came out and took our order, the food was set on a tray hooked to the drivers window. The root beer was served in a huge, heavy glass mug.

Pretty nostalgic!

I remember when they were drive ins. There use to be one in my neighborhood when I was a kid. Going there to get a float was a big treat. Where I live now has a fast food A&W, but it is not a drive-in and the one in my old neighborhood is gone.

Allegheny County Maryland has an A&W like that. It is amazing! Gotta love it! Sonic is awesome too though. The clostest one to me is like 160 miles. Some mornings I almost want to drive that far to sink my teeth into one of those breakfast burritos!

There was one in my hometown in Kansas. The root beer was great, and the food wasn't bad. It was sort of like the drive-up in American Graffiti. It was right at the end of the cruise loop through town, so everybody stopped there to eat and be seen. Thanks for bringing up a really pleasant memory.
