I use to work for 2 dealerships. Basically if you have alot a money just get what you like. All vehicles does its job. If you want an economical car with great gas mileage your best bet would be a Honda with 4 cylinders. They also last like forever. Hondas can go to 200,000 miles and still run great and still get 35mpg or higher. And they are also cheap to fix Hondas. Most people get what they can afford as there first car, as for me I got my mothers car a Chevy Corsica, it was a v6 but you know it did its job of taking me to point A to point B. Hope this helps

Pontiac because they are cheap, and reliable
Look for a Grand Am, Sunbird or Sunfire. Bonnevilles and Grand Prix' are too expensive, and too much for a first car.

Oldsmobile Aleros are good, ford taurus, dodge stratus, chrysler cirrus, dodge daytona, avenger....

anything made after 1993 is better, because it's going to have the side impact steel welded bracing. Older cars did not have that, and in the event of a T-bone accident, there is dramatically more damage.

Your best first car is a hybrid car. It will last you more than a dirty gasoline car. You can choose from the Toyota Prius or the Honda Civic hybrid. They are easy to drive, and reliable. All you need to do is to take them in for an oil change and tire rotation every 4 months.

I think you should get a compact car like a Honda civic or Toyota corolla
My sister has a 1989 honda civic hatchback and it drives almost as good as my 2004 focus and the gas mileage is the best. Plus both cars are pretty stylish.

Toyota. They are enviously reliable and maintenance and repairs are even cheaper than Honda- which is already pretty cheap to maintain and repair to begin with. You can't lose with a Corolla or Camry. You can easily get 400,000 miles out of them. They are designed for drivers who neglect their cars so you know that the quality is there. A well-maintained Honda will give you 300,000 miles. a so-so maintained Toyota will give you 300,000 miles. All of the others would be fortunate to make 200,000 miles.

Okay..if I had to buy a used car right now..

I would conside a few things....price/gas milage/what I intended to use the car for/
was it a "popular car". will I be able to readily get cheap spare parts.
and finally reliability..

with that said..I would pick a foreign car...why?

Foreign cars are more reliable..have fewer moving parts ( meaning less to break/repair).
Foreign cars are easier to repair in the first place...their design is more simplistic..
Cars like the Honda civic and toyota camery are very popular..the replacement parts are cheap and can be purchased in autozone etc.
I've known people that bought toyotas camerys and easily put 150000 miles on them...most people drive them until they literally fall apart..

Plus foreign cars always rank up in the top ten for reliability

American cars unfortuantely are of poorer stock..break down more readily and are bigger pains in the *** to repair..

Please please please..if you decide to buy american..atleast buy chevy over ford...

I would look into finding a nice used camery...

if nothingelse "google" consumers reports guide to used cars..you will see that foreign cars do rate the best

hope this helps

I agree on a Honda, also. Reliable and just good all around, though some years are better than others. Maybe read a mag like Consumer Reports?

depends on what ur looking for, if your looking for a low price, good gas mileage and something that will last a while i would say a honda. But if your a bad driver and probly gonna wreck it i would go for something that has good crash ratings (it will be more expensive) like a volvo or volkswagon.
