No, not Sublime. That song is called "Doin' Time" and I'm listening to it right now.
I'm talking about the old jazzy song that goes "Summertime and the living is easy / fish are jumping and the cotton is high / your daddy's rich and your mama's good lookin / so hush little baby, don't you cry..."

This song was in the opera Porgy and Bess. The story was written by DuBose Heyward.

The musical opera was written by George Gershwin. The song Summertime was first sung on stage by Todd Duncan.

The opera opened in New York on October 10, 1935, for a disappointing run of 124 performances.

The song was written by George and Ira Gershwin way back in the 1930's....it's from the Musical (or Operetta), "Porgy and Bess".

I have no idea who sang the song as part of the original cast...but it's been re-recorded by many many people.

There are apparently nearly 13,000 recorded examples of this song originally written by George Gershwin in 1935.

The latest is indeed by The Indigo Girls.
