the oil light only comes on after a lot of stop and go. i just had the oil changed and everything was OK. i pulled into the driveway and it was on. but when i stepped on the gas it went out. why would stepping on the gas make the light go out?

Could be a bad oil switch wire, bad oil switgh, low oil level, or a weak oil pump.

There is a sensor screwed into the bottom of the engine near the oil pan that warns of low oil levels.Stop and go driving sloshes the oil in the pan around fooling the sensor.Stepping on the gas,the oil is sloshed to the rear of the pan and that's probably where your sensor is.With a 10 year old car,the sensors are amoung the first to go.I'd be checking the dipstick more often.

Could be a few things really:
Oil Sending Unit could be going out of it
Oil Pump
Low on Oil
or could be nothing more than an Idiot light.Look in your Owners manual and check the lights and things out before you go investing money that may not need to be spent on something like that. And as the others have said,Make it SNAPPY! the 2.6 engines were far few and in between to be good ones.Might end up with an Expensive trip if you procrastinate too long............So what are you doing reading this Go ON GIRL! CHECK YO CHIT!
