There is a sequin glue that is offered in most craft and fabric stores. When you use it, make sure a part of the clue comes up through the hole in the sequin. If you want to sew on sequins, get some clear seed beads and a beading needle, and beading thread ( it is stronger than regular thread). Knot one end of the thread, thread on the needle, and do as follows:
Place sequin where you want,
Bring needle from the back of the fabric, through the sequin.
Pick up a seed bead and thread it on.
Poke the needle back through the same hole in the sequin.
The seed bead will prevent the sequin from falling off.
Continue to the next sequin in the design ( if it is close by ) and repeat the procedure.
If the sequins are far apart, knot each individual one separately. Hope this is clear enough.

I really know you're not going to want to hear this, but if you want to add sequins to clothes/bags/shoes/etc you really are best sewing them by hand. If you use a tiny bead in the centre it makes this much easier and looks really nice. I expect you've experienced the way glued sequins from shops malt all over the place and drive you potty. If you're just going for a quick fix try something like UHU which dries clear and wont show against your backing fabric. If you try somewhere like Hobbycraft they have loads of specialist products that will cover pretty much every option. Best of luck.

You can sew the sequins one by one by overlapping them to hid the thread, or a few here and there by having a little bead in the center of the sequin to hold the thread.

you can sew them on one at a time with a seed bead on the front side that you go back through and that holds the sequin on , for a line of sequins you can use zig zag stitch to hold down sequin trim that comes by the yard.
