Im looking to buy a cheap civic this weekend (<4k) and i know civics are reliable to the extreme so with that being said my question is how many max miles should i obtain on the car so that i will still be able to get at least another 4-5 years out of it for summer and winter use only?

It's not the miles, it's the maintenance. If a car has been well maintained, it can last indefinitely. If it's been driven like a little ricer race car and never had the oil changed, then don't expect much out of it. Request any maintenance records that can be provided. Ask the dealer to provide you a carfax report. Have the VIN number run by the parts dept at a Honda dealership and ask what kind of maintenance has been performed at the dealership. Keep an eye out for after market parts such as a non-stock air intake on these cars, the more you see, the more likely it's had the crap beat out of it.

Test drive it, and more than this around the block crap most people do. If anything seems wrong at all, then don't buy it.
