Now that its warm out and I have the air conditioning on, do I want the blades blowing the air downward or upward?

Cooler air "settles" so you want to lift and circulate it. The fan direction should be in the same direction as the lower part of the blade.

Honestly you could leave it blowing down all year round... as in the summer the breeze blowing down cools you off and in the winter the heat in your house rises to the ceiling. (If you stand on a chair and lift your hand to the ceiling durring the winter you'll feel it's warmer near the ceiling... anyway...) you can also switch the blades to blow the air up towards the ceiling durring the winter to just circulate the warm air cause the breeze blowing down is sometimes irritating when you're chilly in the winter. Hope that all made sense... so, blowing down in the summer, up in the winter. :)

The air should blow down in the summer. Hold a baloon or something else under it if you are not sure. The direct breeze helps cool you off.

In the winter, the air should go up. Makes the warm air circulate down the outside walls and helps moderate the temp in your room.

Since hot air rises, it would be prudent to encourage an uplift current to extract into the outer atmosphere.

Blow down in summer, pull up in winter. Unless you want to freeze from a cold breeze in winter.
