First do the problem that is in the parenthesis:
5 + 4 = 9

Then multiply the sum with the 6:
6 x 9 = 54

So 6(5+4) = 54

Use PEMDAS:
P = Parenthesis
E = Exponents
M = Multiplication
D = Division
A = Addition
S = Subtraction

So if you use this list in order, you see that you solve for the stuff in parenthesis first. 5+4 = 9. This turns the equation into 6*(9)
Since there are no exponents, you can continue down the list to multiplication. Multiply 6 by thE 9 and you've got 54.

use Order of Operations
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiplucation & Division
Addition & Subtraction

so either Distribuse 6 and multiply:
6*5+6*4
30+24
54

OR
Add the parenthesis
6*9=54

It's a simple order of operations problem. The order is PEMDAS, or parentheses, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction. Go in that order, and if there's two of something, go left to right.

So for this, first you would add the 5 and the 4 in the parentheses to get 9, then multiply by 6 to get 54. Hope that helped!
