hey so yeah, is that to many fish for a 5 gallon tank?

i originally only had 2 guppies, 1 dwarf, and 1 honey gourami
but when i went to our more fancy aquarium store today to buy one fancy snake skin looking guppy, they said i had to buy a female with it, adding my guppy count to 4
is this ok?
or if its not, what should i kill/ return lol

The number of fish shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep up with your water changes carefully. My concern would be with the ration of males to females in the guppies in your tank. For best keeping you should have 2-3 females for every male to prevent the males from exhausting the females by chasing them all the time. If you have an imbalance in your guppy count, call the store about returning and giving away the female.

You shouldn't kill any of them...I'd return both gourami or find suitable homes for them (a 10 gallon is the minimum size tank for either of them). If you're dead set on gouramis, you could get sparkling (pygmy) gourami, but then would have to get rid of the guppies too.

Are you aware that you will soon have tons of guppies in your tank (livebearers breed like mad)? Make sure you have a plan on how to deal with fry.

It should be ok, but you're pushing it just a little bit. Did you want babies with your guppies? If not, then you shouldn't have bought the female. Just make sure do water changes and service your filter every 2-3 weeks (and take magicman's advice).

Gouramis might nicely be particularly aggressive, so i does no longer positioned them in with guppies. I additionally does no longer positioned a gourami in a 5 gallon tank. that's somewhat small. you may desire to do some neons, guppies, and consistent with hazard a platy or 2. yet only undergo in strategies you do no longer want extra advantageous than a million inch of fish consistent with gallon. it may be extra clever to adhere to a team of 5 or 6 guppies or neons for that length tank.

I'd say it would look a little crowded.

Stick with just 4 Guppies.
