i have 2 juvinile iguannas. both are in awsome habitate that i built for them. 85- 90 degree heat basking light , uv bulb on 12 hours a day. a rain hummity cycle. pool. steady healthy mixed diet. suppliments were needed. no animal protein. blah blah blah just so everyone i know all that stuff. second there are no exotic's vet in my area! none! the only one around is no longer excepting new clients. i have one two hours away in philly that number i have on speed dial. but this is NOT a race to the er vet thingy. i wouldn't take my child to a dr. for this problem. With that said just so we are clear, my one iggy has bumped his nose and it is red and sore. it's been that way for a couple weeks. but he keeps doing, running in to the cage glass when it's time to clean out the cage. i just want to know if i can put something on it to help it heal. like a&d ointments. or neosporine? couse you use that on lizards if they drop a tail. is it safe. if not any ideas on how to get it to heal bett

Neosporin is fine to apply just keep a close eye on the sore. My Iguana got a minor cut on top of her head and was mildly bleeding while trying to put her head through the bottom of my bedroom door. She loves going to my room. Anyways, I applied a minor amount of neosporine on the cut and kept a close eye on her to make sure she doesn't hurt it again. It is a pimple. Most likely from a whisker follicle. When you puppy goes through his teenage stage in about 6 months, he will probably get many of them. While he is a little young for such a large pimple, I would not be concerned at this time. However keep an eye on it. Demotic mange and/or strangles is a little more serious. These are more auto-immune issues, often found in less than quality bred Great Danes and other breeds when a breeder does not much care for genetic health. As a first time Dane owner with so many questions I recommend you download the book: "The Great Dane, Model of Nobility" by Jill Swedlow. If you google Sunnyside Danes or Sunstryke Danes Jill offers the download for free. If you can find a hard copy get that, but they are hard to find as her book is now out of print. Her book covers proper food for giant breeds, the pimple thing, crate training, puppy socialization, etc.......The only thing I disagree with her book is the ear cropping. Ear cropping is not medically necessary and purely for cosmetic reasons. I have two natural eared danes and two cropped ones. Both of the cropped dogs have had many vet visits to deal with ear problems. The natural eared Danes, never once. You sound pretty excited about having a Dane puppy. They are quite fun. Good luck j

Any of the standard human antibiotic ointments can be used. I would avoid hydrogen peroxide as it is a bit harsh on new tissue and can impede healing. If you can put some type of visual block at the area and level of the glass that he keeps hitting that may keep him from running into it. Some young iguanas have a hard time with the concept of clear glass.

Just one piece of advice , if your iggy's snout has been bloodied, take care to clean the blood away from the mouth with warm water. A friend's parents were owners of a small pet store(they were fish fanciers, with little lizard experience). one of the geckos they had had bloodied its snout to the point that the blood crusted over and it couldn't open its mouth to eat. As you know they need to eat a fair bit when growing. End result: we discovered the sealed mouth too late to save it. So please wipe his mouth with a warm wet cloth regularly til it heals so this doesn't happen to your iggy
