I have just been talking to a friend on MSN, where my display name is "Madeleine". I have just had someone (on my contacts from goodness how long ago, can't even recall who it is) messaging me, saying "Why don't you get a life, you sick f*****".

Apparently, they took offence at me using the display name "Madeleine". Which is fair enough....except it happens to be MY flippin' name. When I explained this, the response I got was that it was "bad taste to use it at the moment".

Am I supposed to change my name now to spare the fragile feelings of a handful of people?

My godmother's name was also Madeleine. I guess being named Madeleine you know that it is a derivation of "Magdelene", the most beloved of the disciples of Christ?

It's a beautiful and lyrical name. Tell your detractors to bog off.

Some people just cant resist jumping on the bandwaggon
and start taking the term public sympathy
to another level! They will milk it to the fullest degree
whatever the latest thing going on in the world
happens to be. Acting as if they are a chosen
authority on everything and anything,Im sure that its
a type of insecurity or a form of envy
which drives them on to act like its a personal thing that is happening to them.
i think its because deep down they think there is someone other than themself
who is on everyones minds and in the limelight, never mind the horrifiying reason
why the person is on peoples minds ,its just about themself they think it should be them who is front page news they want to be noticed and sympathised with, and will do or say just about anything to get noticed too.

Hi lilyflibble aka Madeline,

No those kinda people need a life! I definately agree with you.
I'd tell them wtf that's my name & don't wear it out!! Beside maybe the person is having hormonal changes weather it be male or female. All the goodie two shoes always give me a hard time for my name dousmokedoobies69 what they need to do is get a clue if they read your profile or for that fact mine they'd have some idea who you are. I could care less what someone on my im list thinks they as they know me & still chat with me & know hey LQQK my choice. Tell them to shove it when the sun doesn't shine. And tell take them off your im list-why continue even chatting to a freak like that. You know the saying sticks & stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.(lol maybe before your time just goes to show my age). Have a good night. :0)

There's more than one Madeleine in the world?!?!? I guess some people are stupid enough to think there aren't. If a person is that dumb then I really wouldn't worry about their opinion if I were you.

Honey you can offend some people by a look, a sniff, scratching your a r s e etc etc, Some silly woman in my office stopped speaking to me because I (get this for a horrific crime!) burped in her presence once, even though I said excuse me it was enough to right me off as a total pig with no thought for others in her book!
I say do what you like, if it offends it offends, often people who take offence easily, jump to massive, assumptive conclusions anyway as was the case for you and I. For me it means some silly no brain c o w no longer speaks to me, well I aint loosing sleep and I'm sure you won't either!

This is getting crazier by the minute.

Who are these people? Aren't they better off wearing a ribbon (what does that do to help anyone), or doing something positive towards missing children instead of swearing at you for using your own name?

Seems this little girl's plight has got lost in all this farcical nonsense.

IGNORE THEM!

What twerps! I think George then must be the most offensive name in the world then due to Bush's antics. So that suggestion is all those millions of people called George shouldn't use their name now? It's too sad. Delete those people of your MSN you don't need berks like that.
