Generally increasing the RAM will improve your performance, particularly if you have applications hitting virtual memory (which is significantly slower than RAM). If you launch the Task Manager () and switch to the Performance tab when you have the system running under a typical load you can get a general idea of your memory usage. What you want to do is try to keep all memory in physical memory rather than virtual memory. 512 MB or more for a home system is generally acceptable but if you are running a lot of memory intensive applications, I'd spend the extra on larger memory chips now. The number of slots in the system is generally limited so if you find you want to add more memory later, you'll essentially have to remove what you have now to add it (particularly if you have only two memory slots).

You'll take a sizeble load off of your cpu,(processor), thereby increasing the performance of your computer, and YOU'LL notice it!
