I hit my head on the bottom of my pool yesterday. At first it didn't hurt, but about 30 seconds later it felt like my head was about to explode. Then about 1 minute later my neck started to hurt really bad. Today my head doesn't hurt but my neck is killing me! It hurts when move it to the right, it also hurts when I look up and down. But there is no pain when I look left. What is wrong with my neck?

You need to go immediately to a chiropractor. When I was in grade school my mom took me to a relatives house who had a pool. No one said anything to me about the depth..I didn't know, I was a kid. I put both of my hands to the side of my body and dove in...my head hitting hard . I couldn't move it from side to side for I can't remember how long. X-ray showed nothing. What you have is like whiplash, you've injured your vetebrae and soft tissue. It compressed like an accordian. Thank God you and I aren't both paralyzed. My neck is so bad now....You see when you injure an area arthritis will set in. My neck is so bad now...I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he cannot fix it because the vetebra is destroyed and they can't fuse it...there is nothing to fuse it to. So, please run to a chiropractor and fast...He or she can put it back in it's correct anatomical position and you won't have to suffer your whole life with it like I do.

You should see your MD ASAP.Striking your head in a pool is the #1 cause of serious neck injuries and paralysis. You can walk around and still have a small fracture or bruise in the area. You may have some soft tissue injury, like a sprain or strain, that needs medical attention and maybe a C-collar,to support the neck until it heals.Only a x-ray and a CT scan can rule out any injuries, and intracranial bleeding which can be life threatening.and because it is the neckand head,I would get seen,to make sure all was OK. Take care. SW RNP

You messed up the ligaments around the neck when you hit the pool bottom. If you had your neck hyperextended as you hit, then it is similar to a whiplash injury sustained from car accidents. I suggest getting Xrays or even an MRI done to assess the damage in your neck. It could be more serious than you think.

You need to see a doctor. I had a neck injury that was not as serious as yours and my doctor sent me for therapy for a muscle spasm. They did massage and I also had muscle relaxers and a neck brace for a week or so. If you can't even look straight you definitely need to see a doctor.

I did something similar about 14years ago, and it turned out that I had chipped a bone in my neck. Have someone drive you to the emergency room NOW. Better safe than sorry.

You damage your neck, but the pain should be gone in a month. If not go have a check up.

The only thing more stupid than diving in a shallow pool, is asking medical questions here. You may have fractured/bruised your vertebrae.
See a doctor, take an ex-ray, and don't do it again.
