An elderly gentleman once told me to do this for a headache. In a sink, run hot water (as hot as you can stand). Place your hands flat in the bottom of the sink until water starts to cool. Dry hands and amazingly headache is gone in no time. This is really works well for migraine headaches.

I try to always have some liquid ginger around because I find it's pretty effective for me when I get headaches.

Camamile oil is great for migraines, just rub it into your temples. Another alternative is to take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

this may sound weird but I have tried both and sometimes they do help:
try smelling peppermint oil
or
a green apple (granny smith)

try some homeopathics. I believe there are some that treat them and some that prevent them.
