No, they're not the first.
1. The Baltimore Bullets won the title in 1948, but lost in the 1st round the next year to New York, 2 games to 1. Baltimore then disbanded 14 games into the 1954-55 season.

2. In 1956, the Philadelphia Warriors won the NBA title. The next year they were ousted in the first round, 2 games to 0, by the Syracuse Nationals.

3. In 1969, Russell led the Celtics to their 11th title in 13 years before retiring. The next year, the Celtics did not even make the playoffs.

4. In 1980, the Lakers won the 1st title in Magic's career. The next year, they lost to Houston 2 games to 1, in the 1st round.

5. In 1983, Moses Malone led the Sixers to the promised land where Julius Erving finally won an NBA title. The next year, they were eliminated in the 1st round, 3 games to 2, by the New Jersey Nets.

6. In 1999, San Antonio won the NBA title for the 1st time. In 2000, they lost in the 1st round, 3 games to 1, to the Phoenix Suns.

7. In 2006, Miami won its 1st-ever NBA title, then promptly were eliminated in the 1st round in this year's playoffs.

No, didn't the same thing happen to the Spurs?

They were NBA champions in 2005 then got upset by Dallas last year- I don't know if that was in the first round, though...
