Natural gas is transported through pipeline at pressure
P = 100 atm = 1e7 Pa.

What is the tension in the walls of the pipe?
(Note: tension (i.e. stress) could be anisotropic).

Insufficient data. Need wall thickness T for stress (Pa).
Thin wall approx. is S = 0.5*P*D/T. This stress keeps the left and right side of the pipe in lateral force balance equilibrium (that is, from splitting lengthwise and parting company).
