It's just a coincidence (although you're probably aware of that).

The word "selfish" is made up of the two components "self" and "ish". It's just how the word was created; the word "fish" doesn't have any value in the word.

The word fish has no relation to selfish. The word selfish comes from the word self+the suffix-ish.

selfish is not a whole word.it is made from "self" and suffix "ish" has been added so the word becomes "selfish"
a person who always thinks /considers about himself first is called selfish...means always thinking about him self only
someother similar words are goofish,elfish,purplish,blakish,brownish etc

Same reason it has elf in it. It just happens to be there. It's Self-ish, kinda like fool-ish.

why you thought of it as sel +fish..why not self + ish ?
or otherwise you are fond of fishes
