I often try to start a conversation with some of my female acquaintances at school, and things just fall apart. It starts out "hey how are you how was your weekend how was that, i did that once or twice" and just stops. The girl doesn't seem interested in talking, and I run out of things to ask. It just never clicks. How do I stop this from happening?

How about asking her which subject is her favorite, and why? Or compliment her on her clothes or hair or eyes. Or ask her who her friends are and why she likes them.

I understand when a girl begins playing with her hair that she likes you. Maybe she is shy and doesn't know how to initiate conversation.

P.S. the guy way above me has a point. Don't just ask questions. Talk some about what you like to do, like your favorite TV shows.

Change you approach. Avoid those kind of starting lines you've been using...it's just as bad as using a played-out pick-up line or talking about the weather.

Go into the convo with a backup plan in case she doesn't respond openly to you first lines. NEVER let the convo run dry. Once you feel the convo slipping kill it right then and there. By doing this you leave on a high note and the last impression she has of you will be a positive one.

Remember, it's a conversation, not an interrogation. But if you must ask questions, ask questions that cannot possibly be answered with a single word. This way you are forcing her to talk but in a gentle way.

Do this with the right amount of confidence, eye-contact, and smile and you will have her opening up to you in no time.

Trust me, i've been there.

Slow down. You move too fast. You've got to make the morning last! Kick around some cobblestones...you're looking for fun! You're feeling groovy!
Yep, that line from an old Simon and Garfunkel song is still true today: just slow down...make more positive eye contact....listen to what she says more....talk to her about what she wants to hear about.....less about yourself....give that a try. And show her some confidence....act like you're the best damned lover maker in town!

People who talk to me only about what they did - it just doesn't work. It works when they ask me open questions and stuff. Asking somebody about their weekend may be personal, I don't know. Don't punch her in the vage. If you have the guts to actually talk to a girl you like you have something going for you.

i know how you feel im a girl and everytime i talk to this guy i try to start a conversation and he just aswers me with a couple of words. ex: me.....HI how was your day. him.....good.
and thats all he says. it gets kinda old but i always try to make up conversations. but yeah maybe you should try telling her to keep the conversation going because i think im gonna do that to because its boring just sitting on the phone or by the person and listening to them breath or nothing being said at all. maybe she doesnt know what to say? but idk hope this is any help to you.

start talking about stuff you're gonna do that day.
like if you're not doing anything and say you're gonna watch tv tell her about your fav. show and then soon she'll talk about hers and the conversation will flow.
