Ok. I went to a yard sale, and bought this old sewing machine. It works in perfect condition, its just, I need to find out its model and I can't find it. I found a receipt from the original owner, and it was bought in 1976 and its a Kenmore. Does anyone know what model I might have?

It could be one of several. It's probably way overdue for a tuneup and cleaning, so the tuneup person could tell you.

Hi

On most Kenmores the model number is found on a metal plate that is usually on the front, but underneath the edge of the sewing machine bed. It reads something like this 117.813. The first 3 numbers tell you the manufacturer (in this case White) and the numbers after the dot are generally used as the model number.

The Brother sewing machines have been pretty good starter machines, and have much to choose from in the price range you are looking at. A slightly better brand would be Singer, with prices ranging $200 - $300. We have been in garment manufacturing for years, and we use Singer commercial machines and keep one Singer home machine for use as well. They are reliable and easy to use. Bernina is a another good brand, but can be pricey unless you find a good sale or a used one.
