additionally, how are the CFC's destroying the ozone?

The energy associated with UV is continually used to convert oxygen into ozone in the upper stratosphere, converting the UV radiation into heat energy. The ozone molecules formed by the reaction absorb ultraviolet radiation having wavelengths between 240 and 310 nm

Since the UV is used up in this process very little reaches ground level.

CFCs (chloroflourocarbons) are highly stable chemicals and easily reach the upper stratosphere without being broken down. When they reach the stratosphere CFCs are broken down by UV radiation and chlorine is liberated. Cholrine is highly reactive and reacts with ozone readily to produce ClO and O2. Ozone molecules are therefore destroyed, allowing much greater amounts of UV to penetrate to ground level.

The chemistry is finally balanced and chlorine tips the scales to destroy ozone. Wiki has an accurate article... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone_depletion

First to the CFC they are too heavy to get that high that is another scam. The ozone layer is created at the edge of space where the solar wind collides with the earth's magnetic field . As the solar winds which are ionized come toward the earth the beta particles are attracted to the north pole and make it negative. The alfa particles are attracted to the south pole and make it positive. The charges hold the O3 in the ozone layer and furnish a huge current which flows through the shield . There are pictures taken by a plane where a storm had lightning growing down and almost at the same time there was a lightning strike that went up to the ozone layer. The hole in the ozone layer happens when the sun is very active and u have huge amounts of alfa & beta current that blows a hole in the ozone layer. It is a natural phonimalo .

The biggest problem caused by the ozone hole is that some people think it is a problem.
